Description
Oilskin is the current trend when it comes to the perfect material for sewing rainwear, bags and backpacks!
Sealing with a solid, "dry" wax layer makes this robust, thin cotton fabric in plain weave water-repellent but breathable. The first creases appear when sewing due to folding and movement, but that is part of the character of this fabric. Fulling makes the fabric more supple and also gives it a used look.
Unwanted creases and folds can be easily removed with a standard household hair dryer, but they also fade easily over time
This crumpled appearance is a very typical, intentional characteristic and does not represent a reduction in quality.
Oilskin cannot be washed because, on the one hand, the wax layer is lost - although this can be renewed with a special spray - and, on the other hand, the material shrinks so much that the garment will no longer fit afterwards.
